Basketball

Introduction
Welcome to the EuroGames basketball tournament. We're happy to be able to offer you a 3-day tournament, with both a men's and women's competition. Unique to the Rotterdam EuroGames is that various sports will be hosted in the same venue.

Anticipated number of participants
We are expecting around 12 to 14 men's teams and between 16 and 20 women's teams. The maximum number of teams will be 32. Registration will close at that level. Please note: early registration saves you money and makes organizing easier for us.

Tournament rules
Tournament rules will be in line with FIBA regulations, with the following exceptions:
- Matches will be played in two 15-minute halves, running clock
- Limit on number of fouls permitted, timeouts and no free throws
- Teams should consist of minimal 7 and maximal 12 players
Tournament rules are subject to change.

Type of tournament
Our tournament will last 3 days to ensure that all teams have an opportunity to play a targeted minimum of about 6 matches during the tournament. The aim is to have preliminary rounds on the first day followed by qualifying rounds on the second day, with the semi-finals and finals on the third day.

Our tournament will offer separate competitions for men and women. There will be only one division per competition. You have to register yourself as part of a team. Competition days
The basketball tournament starts on Thursday 21 July and ends Saturday 23 July 2011, starting at 9 a.m. and finishing at 5 p.m. on each day. All teams have to be available on all 3 days.

Award ceremony
The award ceremony will be held on Saturday 23 July just after the finals have been played. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in the male and female competitions.

Location
The basketball competition will be held in the central sports location, AHOY Rotterdam. This venue will host multiple sports and has bars/restaurants. This location, to the south of Rotterdam, can easily be reached by both public transport and car. The journey time to the city centre by metro is only 15 minutes.

Other important info
- Matches will be played on official FIBA-size basketball courts
- The three-point line will be set at the new distance of 6.75m
