'Outreach Programma' blijft hard nodig

Outreach_1 Een belangrijk onderdeel van de EuroGames is het Outreach Programma dat sporters steunt die anders niet mee zouden kunnen doen. En als je je afvraagt of dat niet een beetje overdreven is in deze tijd, het antwoord is nee. Lees het relaas van de Kroatische Tonci en je zult het met ons eens zijn dat het Outreach Programma hard nodig blijft.

Het programma
Het Outreach Programma heeft altijd een prominente rol gespeeld tijdens de EuroGames. Voornaamste doel van het programma is om sporters te ondersteunen die anders niet mee zouden kunnen doen. Omdat het ze aan de financiële middelen ontbreekt, de politieke situatie in hun thuisland het niet toelaat of er geen verenigingen zijn in hun thuisland die deelname mogelijk maken. Nu denk je misschien dat het in deze tijd niet meer voorkomt, het is tenslotte 2011, maar lees de verhalen van Tonci uit Kroatië en Konstantin uit Rusland, en je komt tot de conclusie dat het Outreach Programma hard nodig blijft.

Konstantin Yablotskiy, Russisch ambassadeur van EuroGames: "Everybody in our team gradually becomes more excited as the EuroGames get closer and closer. In total 45 Russian people will participate for the first time in the EuroGames this year thanks to the Outreach programme. They have been training very hard last months in order to compete with other Europeans in the atmosphere of happiness, tolerance and love. For all Russian participants, the EuroGames will give the courage which will make them stronger in terms of human rights and self-acceptance first of all.
