First edition of the Newsletter!

Hereby we proudly present the first official newsletter of the EuroGames 2011. This newsletter will be sent monthly and will highlight everything concerning the development and organisation of the EuroGames. The newsletter will contain updates on the scheduled sports as well as updates on the cultural events. A behind-the-screens view on the organisation of the EuroGames will also be part of the newsletter. Additionally, the newsletter will also contain stories on the volunteers of the EuroGames; their reasons for helping out during the EuroGames and their expectations. Besides highlighting the volunteers we will also be introducing the professionals behind the EuroGames 2011.

Hotspots
Another part of the newsletter will be all about the hotspots in the city of the EuroGames 2011, Rotterdam. In this part we will also highlight in which way the city is preparing itself for the EuroGames. In short, through this newsletter the organisation of the Eurogames 2011 aims to provide information to people interested in the EuroGames and all parties involved. This information will mostly concern the preparations as well as the establishment of this magnificent sports event that will be held in July 2011 in the city of Rotterdam!

Registration EuroGames open 

Registration for the 13th edition of the EuroGames is now open. Rotterdam will be hosting this event from July 20 to July 24 2011 and offers you a wide variety of exciting sports and cultural events. Participants can register for at least 30 different sports, and for every sport there will be a minimum number of participants in order to organise a relevant competition. EGLSF-members pay only € 70 euro (registration before march 1, 2011). Stay tuned to www.eurogames2011.eu for the latest sport updates.

In addition to the sports, the EuroGames 2011 will also have a rich cultural programme with unique opportunities to meet up with athletes and other interesting people. The magnificent Colour Festival will be held during the EuroGames 2011. This cultural event will feature numerous short acts and concerts in a relaxing atmosphere and will be dedicated to the acceptance and integration of gays, bisexuals and transgenders.

TravelThe EuroGames2011 has chosen UNIGLOBE A&P Travel Rotterdam as the Official Travel Partner for flights, hotels and transportation during the event next summer. UNIGLOBE A&P Travel is a professional Rotterdam-based Travel Agency and among the top 5 players in the international travel market worldwide and will operate under the name TravelDesk EuroGames2011.

Within a few weeks you will be able to book online on our website www.eurogames2011.eu. Don't book your flights and/or your accommodations just yet, you might end up spending too much! We expect to have the deals live by mid December.

Rotterdam best festival city in the world

Rotterdam_festivalstadThe city of Rotterdam has been ranked best festival city in the world 2010 in the category of mid-sized cities. It seems only natural that Rotterdam is also the host of the EuroGames 2011.

Of all the cities in the world with 500,000 – 1,000,000 inhabitants, the city of Rotterdam was recognised as having the most positive climate for festivals. This award was announced this week by the jury of the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA) in Saint Louis, United States of America.

According to the IFEA, Rotterdam has a considerable number of professional organisers full of creative ideas. Moreover, the local infrastructure was said to be excellent. And furthermore, the jury acknowledged that all services and parties in the city were found to be co-operating closely to allow events to take place.

Ahoy & Rotterdam now officially partners

Ahoy_voorkantAhoy, one of Rotterdam’s largest sportsvenues, is now officially sports partner of the EuroGames 2011. After two years of intensive preparations, we finally made it official by signing the contracts last month.

The sportscenter will be hosting at least 8 of our sports. It has 6 large halls for sporting activities, two floors with conference rooms and excellent facilities to relax and enjoy. Besides the sportstournaments Ahoy will also be the home of a few of our culture events and our very exciting Opening Ceremony on thursday 21 July. So George Michael, Madonna and Robbie Williams will have to wait a week or two, because the EuroGames are coming!

Key location
Ahoy is located nearby shoppingcentre ‘Zuidplein’, about 10 minutes by subway from the city centre. Our Culture Village is also reachable within 10 minutes.Ahoy will be one of the keylocations of the EuroGames 2011. As you may know our sport events will be concentrated in only a few venues, in order to bring up the best EuroGames atmosphere you can wish. In the upcoming newsletters we will give you some nice impressions of all the EuroGames Rotterdam sportsvenues.
