Do you know...Saskia Prosch?
Saskia Prosch, 29 years old, graphic designer and coordinator of promotional activities is doing her best to get everyone excited about the EuroGames. Unfortunately, she won't be competing: 'I wouldn't even make it to the end of the street in a running competition'. Prosch is looking for volunteers to recruit EuroGames competitors at national and international events.
Saskia Prosch, what are you doing for the Rotterdam EuroGames?
'I am the coordinator of promotional activities of the Rotterdam EuroGames. Our job is to promote the EuroGames. For now, we are mostly focusing on female parties, but also in some degree on male parties. At this moment, we are in dire need of volunteers: volunteers for handing out flyers and for providing information. I am planning to make promotional videos with others for our website and of course YouTube. And no, I am not so much into sports, so I won't be competing at the EuroGames. I was always the second one to fall out of the Cooper test. Always second, because I didn't want to fall out first.'
How can I qualify for your promotional team?
'Enthusiasm is a big plus. But also making other people enthusiastic for the EuroGames. On April 8 we will go to L-Beach in Northern-Germany, April 15 to the Düssel Cup and May 21 to the Paris Tournament. English proficiency is also a big plus. Transport and stays will all be arranged.'
You are mostly focusing on parties. Aren't sports clubs better for promoting the EuroGames?
'This is also one of my arguments. We are sending promotional material to sports clubs by mail. They are a bit too spread out to visit them all.'
What is the highest stage of your life?
'During the female party 'Sin' in March I had my first performance as a VJ. I would really like to do something similar during the EuroGames. If successful, I would also like to attend other clubs. I can easily combine nice video images, which I created as graphic designer, with music.'
Are straight people affected by your promotional activities?
'We definitely run into straight people, mostly at female parties, but we do not recruit them actively. We primarily focus on gays. But if they want to participate, they are more than welcome.'
Who would you like to show the EuroGames?
'I would really like to show football fans the EuroGames, for them to open their eyes. In The Netherlands, none of the famous football players are out of the closet. It is the public who decides that gays should not be accepted. Professional football is a typical macho world.'
What is easier to promote, Saskia Prosch or the 2011 EuroGames?
'The EuroGames. But I have to say that before this I had never heard of the EuroGames. The local LGBT-organisation pointed me in this direction when I wanted to do some volunteering for this specific group. The EuroGames are a powerful brand with an important social objective. Promoting myself is a bit more difficult, because I don't have a clear objective. I am always full of ideas, and I can easily determine and communicate a message. The EuroGames are promoted easily because of so many talented people involved in the organisation.'
