A night as a token of pride

EuroGames 2011 organisers and volunteers got together on Wednesday night September 11th to discuss the latest developments, get to know each other better and exchange ideas. But above that, to share the feeling of pride that surrounds the EuroGames.
EuroGames 2011 chairman Hans van Dop warmly welcomed everybody, and councillor Antoinette Laan especially. Van Dop clearly enjoyed seeing so many associates and volunteers together. People who, in their own way, contribute to making EuroGames 2011 happen.
Diplomatic support
Councillor Laan also showed her pride: “It’s fantastic that in our country, our city, we’re able to pull off a big sports event that’s all about homo-emancipation.” While paying a visit to Hungary earlier this year, it had become painfully clear to the management that it’s not exactly like that in all of Europe. The Dutch delegation had no trouble receiving support from the Dutch vice-ambassador there, but the Hungarians themselves can not show pride of their nature yet. Let alone receiving political or diplomatic support.
Programme
It’s crystal clear there’s still a lot to gain when it comes to homo-emancipation, even in Holland. That’s why the EuroGames 2011 organisation is very proud to confirm no less than 30 sports will be represented at the games. But it’s not just a sports event, also a lot of effort is put into a cultural programme: the Colour Festival. This independent festival, already outlined for 2011, will be an annual event.
