One Winner, no looser with Football

The football competition kicked off on Thursday in the Sportpark 16Hoven. With a temperature of 15 degrees and no rain, it was perfect weather to play. In total some 450 players, spread over 24 female and 12 male teams, are competing for the Gold, Siler and Bronze medals, which will be awarded on Sunday.

International women

The referees, hailing from countries such as Germany and the Netherlands, are full of praise for the level of the players and the sportsmanship, as they did not yet have to pull out any cards. The atmosphere is very good; the various teams help and support each other where they can so that everybody can bring this tournament to a successful conclusion. The surprise of the female tournament is the strong performance of 2 Russian teams; they both end up on first place in their pool. Other strong contenders are the Spanish, Irish, German, Austrian, Italian and French teams.

British men

There is less diversity in the mal teams; this is above all a British affaire; the men all know each other well from other tournaments, so a relaxed, good atmosphere is guaranteed. However, as soon as the studs of these studs touch the playing field, the gloves are of and they fight hard to win. In spite of the distant location, and limited spectators, they can all look back on a first day of a competition well played.

Atmosphere

A teary eye after a match lost or a knee hurt aside, did the good background music, an enthusiastic crew of volunteers and the good weather create a great atmosphere during the first day of the tournament. Let’s hope that it will stay dry the coming few days…
